In today’s Cromarty Firth, the deep-rooted colonial, military and industrial heritage are still signified by the vestiges of the physical installations that still sit within the landscape. Human settlements in Cromarty Firth have brought to the area different trades and industries throughout the area’s historical trajectory.

As we enter the post-industrial zeitgeist that has begun to arise as a result of the decommissioning of the site’s industrial heritage, my project aims to explore the plausibility of promoting the practice of a socially just and ecologically viable development model in Cromarty Firth through the reintroduction of a historic crop - hemp.
